Why not?
I still remember
The blessings when you came
The terrains you did claim
To squeeze dry was your aim
I still remember
The leaves my fathers wore
The chains their fathers bore
The shame deep in their core
I still remember
The sound of every whip
The cry from every lip
And children seized from sip
I still remember
The crowd in every cage
Starvation beyond gauge
To work without a wage
I still remember
Waves in the endless sea
My brethren thrown for me
That today I may be
I still remember
How they were bought and sold
They slept out in the cold
Were slain those that were bold
I still remember
Centuries in the field
The fruit that they did yield
For your cities to build
I still remember
When their names were erased
How their pride was defaced
But stayed there still… Amazed !
I still remember
When no more they could stand
You tied them foot and hand
And chased them off the land
I still remember
You returned to their root
And placed your eyes to boot…
At every chance to loot
I still remember
How you killed Lumumba
Sold arms to Angola
And frustrated Nkrumah
I still remember
Your hand in Rwanda
Your smell in Pretoria
Footsteps in Somalia
With rage in my heart,
I accuse you
Of extortion and calculated fraud
With hate in my bones,
I accuse you
Of deception and immeasurable hypocrisy
With wrath in my soul
I accuse you
Of torture and unremorseful murder
With anger in my spine
I accuse …
You are a disgrace to the human race !
In respect of my fathers,
For what they went through,
And what I still suffer
I DISREGARD YOU
Speak not to me of justice
Speak not to me of equality
Speak not to me of freedom
Speak not to me of human rights
Throw your democracy to the dogs
May the poison of my fathers’ blood
Spice your dinner
May the venom in my veins
Sweeten your coffee
May the opium in my entrails
Lubricate your womb
I speak for
My fathers
My brothers
My children
And me
